Installation

Shutters come in many different styles, using different materials, Blade sizes, rotation types, finishes and different installation methods available to suit all different applications. Go to details page for information on materials and blade sizes which are available. Let start with the different installation methods. Choose either Hinged shutters, Sliding shutters or Track bi-fold shutters. We supply everything you required to make the task easy. All hardware, frames or pelmets, tracking and of course installation instructions are supplied. Most of the time all the hardware is already installed on the shutters and frames, everything is cut to size, ready for you to install.

Rotation Types Available - Centre, Offset and Hidden Rotation options are available with all material types, except Aluminium shutters, which can only have hidden rotation.

Hinged Shutters

We highly recommend the use of a 4 sided Frame for all shutter installations when not using a Track. The Frame is supplied in 4 pieces and marked accordingly, each side is simply slotted together with the use of Hoffmann Keys, the Frame is placed and screwed into or onto the Window opening, the panels are then placed into position and the hinge pins inserted for completion of the installation.

Alternatively you can use either Non-mortising hinges, Pivot hinges or Hang strips. All these method give a nice clean line to your existing timber reveals.

Frame method

Installation is done in 3 easy steps, with all hardware already installed. Full installation details are supplied with every order.

  1. Assemble the frame, all pre cut to size.
  2. Fix frame to the window opening
  3. Slide the pin into the Hinges, close shutters to see if they require adjustment. Lock hinges into place with final screws.

There are two types of tracking systems. These are:

Bi-fold

Sliding

Bi-fold Shutters

Bi-fold shutters are made up of 2 or more panels installed in a concertina effect. You may have up to 8 panels concertina in either direction or all in one direction, as long as they are in multiples of two. Bi-fold doors are popular for doorways opening out onto a patio or for an unobstructed view.

Bi-fold doors must always be equal size panels for each opening.

Top track are always supplied and bottom may be required for some openings.

A top pelmet may be required for bi-fold doors and will be supplied with a fascia. This is supplied in matching timber and finish. If doors are fitted in a reveal two (2) fascias will be required if used as a room divider.

Sideboards can be provided as an option. It will be provided at the same width as the headboard (100mm x 19mm). They are useful for face mounting, or for partial inside/outside reveal mounting.

Sliding Shutters

Sliding doors use a double tracking system to allow a panel to slide past the panel next to it. When opened, there will always be at least half the doorway covered, which should be taken into account if you are looking for an unobstructed view when the doors are open. In such cases the bi-fold option is possibly the better option.

The standard practice is to close the blades when sliding the shutter doors. An option is provided for sliding with the blades open; however the panels must be mounted further apart. This means that the panels will intrude further into the room, and more light will come into the room. We can supply light bead for the overlap gap between the shutters and also sideboards for each end of the pelmet. Each sliding door panel will be supplied the same width for a single opening.

Standard is to supply top track & bottom guide. There is also an option to replace the bottom guide with a bottom track if required.

A Pelmet is supplied as standard on all sliding openings. A fascia is also supplied as standard to cover tracking.

Sideboards can be supplied as an option. They will be provided at the same width as the headboard (either 160mm x 19mm or 200mm x 19mm). It is recommended to use sideboards, as they offer greater light blocking, and also offer more support to the headboard.

Please check the depth of reveal for inside mount. Outside mount or partial Inside/Outside mount is generally recommended, as there is rarely enough room inside the reveal to accommodate the full headboard.
