Western Red Cedar Kit Shutters
Western Red Cedar is arguably the best softwood in the world, with its light and soft texture, cedar aroma and natural grains. The light weight makes Cedar ideal for larger shutter installations and can be used in internal and external applications. Our Western Red Cedar is sourced from sustainable plantation timber in Canada and is our top shelf product for the discerning decorator. Timber is dried to suit Australian conditions. Western Red Cedar is a timber with a large natural variation in the colour of the timber. The timber is a softwood, which is very durable, moderately strong, and resistant to splitting. It has it own natural oils within the timber which gives it great stability to with stand warping and twisting. This is the only timber we recommend for external use because of these natural oils.
This is our cheapest shutter, because you assemble and finish them yourself. Kits Shutter blade pivots are machined into the blade ends – no plastic parts ore used in this shutter. The blades are pre-stapled and linked using Shutter kits exclusive Alloy Link Strip and Timber Rotation bar allowing quick and neat assembly. A simple, adjustable blade tensioning mechanism is used to give smooth operation of the blades. Kits Shutter can be manufacture and delivered within 2-3 weeks from date of order.
Assembly of a Kit Shutter requires only basic tools and can be completed in about 10 minutes per shutter. Each kit comes with easy-to-follow assembly instructions. With our Kits Shutter we are able to supply all hardware and accessories giving you a complete, ready-to-finish and assemble, highest quality cedar shutters for your home. Easy to assemble, Can be finished prior to put together. This shutter can be used externally, if the correct glue is used and the shutter is finished with an external finish.
Specifications of Western Red Cedar Kit Shutter
- 4 Blade sizes available 68mm & 84mm in Flat Blades & 68mm & 89mm in an Aero Foil Blade.
- Raw finish only. Can select, Light to Mid Tones, Mid to Dark Tones & Random Tones.
- 3 Rotation types available, Centre Rotation, Offset Rotation & Clearview Rotation. Also known as Hidden or Concealed rotation.
- Maximum single panel width is 950mm for the 68mm blades & 1050mm for the larger blades.
- Maximum panel height is 3000mm.
- Hinged bi-fold maximum individual panel with is 600mm, maximum opening is 2412mm.
- Track bi-fold maximum individual panel width is 600mm. Maximum panels recommend in 1 direction is 4 panels, for easy operation. More panels are ok. Bottom track is recommend but not always required.
- Shutters can be joined for sliding to create double shutter. Maximum width 1900mm for 68mm blade & 2000mm for larger blades.
- All shutters priced by the square metre. The flat blade is slightly cheaper than the Aerofoil blade. No price changes for any of the different blade sizes, colours or rotation types or the number of panels in an opening. Additional cost is charged for freight, hinges and additional timber & hardware, pelmets & tracking for track bi-folding and sliding shutters.
- Shaped shutters are available to suit any shaped window this option is charged at an additional cost to the standard pricing.
Installation Methods
- Fixed in place, mainly used in a void or opening in a wall. See picture of fixed shutters in use.
- Hinged as single or paired shutters, used mainly on a window. See picture of hinged shutters in use.
- Hinged bi-fold, where 1 shutter is hinged off another shutter and bi-folding to 1 side or both sides of the opening. See picture of hinged bi-fold shutters in use.
- Track bi-folding where multiple shutters, with the use of a tracking and pelmet system, are able to bi-fold the 1 or both direction, mainly used on a sliding door or as a room divider. See picture of track bi-folding shutters in use.
- Track sliding. Used to slide shutters. Normally a pelmet and track is used to slide shutters in different directions. Used mainly on a sliding door. Shutters can slide with either the blades open or closed, depending on situation. See picture of sliding shutters.
